DIOR LADY ART
A new artistic collaboration

Architectural lines embellished with Charms in homage to those that Christian Dior was never without, cannage evoking the Napoleon III chairs on which the couturier seated his guests for shows… the Lady Dior bag epitomises the Dior spirit, its hallmarks and savoir-faire in haute couture. Propelled to the rank of timeless classic since 1995, a marvel of skilful craftsmanship, stitched, quilted, made from the finest materials and revealing the core identity of a fashion house passionate about its emblems, it went beyond fashion and embraced the most experimental transformations.

For this third edition of Dior Lady Art, and for the first time ever as determined by Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, the bag will be redesigned exclusively by women: eleven artists from all over the world, given carte blanche by Dior. These women from different generations and representing many countries between them, including Colombia, Turkey, South Korea, China, the United States, France and Japan, have pushed the limits even further in the pursuit of excellence. Every last detail of this quintessential Dior model, from the materials to the colours and the lucky charms, have been customised according to the predilection, style and imagination of each artist.

LI SHURUI

Light - its movement and its radiance - is her primary source of inspiration. Nature, water, air… all feature among her main creative influences. She says the use of light and space, at different times and in different cultures, can reveal people’s desires, needs and state of mind. In this collaboration with Dior, the Chinese artist Li Shurui is celebrating "that which only humans and time can conceive", the importance of the savoir-faire specific to crafts and painting, as well as the time spent producing these unique creations. In this way, her work could thus reflect the contrasting relationship between this time apart and that of the digital "flow" of post-industrial society. "By redefining, or defining, the very essence of the feminine aesthetic in a globalised culture, Dior had an incredible influence on the last century", said Li Shurui. To me, the Lady Dior contains elements of every era and season since it first appeared." Her reworked Lady Dior is reminiscent of a hypnotic hologram. This holographic motif is printed on embossed coated fabric. Letters spelling out Dior in gleaming gold-tone metal are joined by an oval charm – like a small heavenly body, a celestial symbol typically found in the artist’s dazzling works – a graded blue homage to one of the House of Dior's colours.
